Player Dress Code
For orchestra members, our dress code is listed below:
Black Formal
Players may choose from the following; all items must be black:
- Long Sleeve Button Up Shirt with any style of collar
- Formal Top
- Suit Jacket, Blazer, Waistcoat or Vest
- Long Trousers, Pants or Skirt mid-calf length or below
- Evening Dress – mid-calf length or below
- Evening Shoes with Long Socks or Stockings
The following are optional additions to the above:
- Tie, Bow Tie, Pocket Square, Cravat, Belt or Braces
Black/White Formal
As above, with the following:
- Black suit, white shirt tucked in, with black bow tie/tie for those who want to wear a suit
Semiformal
Players may choose from the following; all items must be black:
- Long Sleeve Button Up Shirt with any style of collar
- Smart Top
- Long Trousers, Pants or Skirt (mid-calf or below)
- Dress (mid-calf or below)
- Smart Shoes with optional Long Socks or Stockings
Guidelines
- No jeans, shorts, short-sleeve button up shirts or blouses, T-shirts or polos. No boots or trainers
- Fabrics and garments must reflect formality of stated dress code, be BLACK, clean ironed/steamed and stage appropriate, not greying, discoloured or faded.
- Subtle black fabric patterns, textures and variations are allowed but must be suitable for stage e.g. pinstripes, wool, herringbone, silk etc (if uncertain please consult Orchestra Management).
- Shirts designed to be tucked in, i.e. with curved hems, must be tucked in.
- Shirts designed to be untucked, i.e. fitted and/or with straight hems can be untucked.
- For button-up shirts, no more than 2 buttons undone unless wearing a black undershirt, and sleeves not rolled/folded up.
- Shoes must be clean, polished and not scuffed.
